The rapid preparation of sand formulations with cold box or hot process chemical binders can be effectively accomplished in a Carver Mark Series batch muller. Batch mullers offer the advantages of variable mulling time, totally homogeneous batch content, and the ability to change the mulling sequence as desired. The Mark Series' mulling action significantly reduces binder and catalyst usage when compared with most conventional mixing equipment. Total batch-to-batch cycle time is less than one minute in most applications.
The Mark Series units use an "S" type mulling arm to most efficiently mull the sand. A polyethylene liner guards the mulling chamber wall against build-up. Binder and catalyst are carefully metered into the muller via recirculating pumping systems.
A programmable controller is utilized to allow instant selection of batch size and specific formulation. All variables can be programmed to ensure accurate control of any desired batch characteristics that your application demands. Multiple core machines may be supplied automatically on demand, even where batch size and binder levels may vary from machine to machine. A remote control station at each machine may be used to select the exact sand mix best suited for each job.
A self-cleaning cycle is also built into the control package. An automatic self-cleaning cycle scours the mulling chamber with a measured amount of dry sand after the batching cycle is complete. This sand becomes an integral part of the next automatic batch. At the start of the next batch, sand quanitity is adjusted automatically to allow for the scouring sand already present.
These units can be installed as a central sand mulling/distribution system with mixed sand discharge and delivery to one or more core machines. Systems are available with either traveling mullers or traveling containers for prepared sand. Such systems are directed by manual or automatic signals to travel to the required discharge point and to return for refill.
